Hedera Canariensis

Hedera canariensis, also know as Canary Island Ivy is an incredible groundcover. It is one of my favourite groundcovers to use because it has a very dramatic effect when used en masse beneath the canopy of trees.

It spreads quickly to create a lush layered carpet of greenery. The advantage of this plant is that it can thrive in full sun to full shade which makes it very versatile. Be aware though that if exposed to full sun all day, some of the leaves may burn in the peak of summer if temperatures are regularly exceeding 40 degrees.

The new growth is stunning with its intensely bright lime green which contrasts against the darker shades of the mature leaves.
